Scanning Tools

Port scans are tests to determine which TCP and UDP ports on a target system are ‘listening’ (waiting for a connection).

Many computers have port listeners turned on by default. Hackers spend a lot of time port scanning their target to locate the listeners prior to establishing a plan of attack.

Enterprise network security officers must have scanning tools in order to constantly assess and remedy any vulnerabilities on the corporate network before they are exploited.

There are many scanning tools available which permit enterprise security officers to monitor their network.

ComQuest works with it clients both in the selection of appropriate network scanning tools and in the training of its clients’ staff in their proper utilization.  After installation and configuration of scanning tools, ComQuest engineers work with the client to run a test against the entire gamut of TCP and UDP ports and then compare the list of open ports against the list of ports that need to be open for network systems to function properly.   We train your staff to examine the operating systems, databases, applications, and accounts for openings.

ComQuest integrates scanning into an overall strategy of Risk Management, helping its clientele identify and address risks before they become ‘incidents.’   We work with key industry vendors such as Skybox and eEye to tailor solutions to our customer’s risk profile.
