An IPS (intrusion protection system) is like the ‘sky marshall’ hiding on and watching over your enterprise network and whose role is to identify, capture, interrogate and kill intruders.

Intrusion Protection Systems are sophisticated combinations of hardware and software, configured to recognize and respond to suspicious network traffic. 

As a rule, ComQuest does not recommend Intrusion Protection Systems which function using ‘signatures,’  since signatures cannot be developed until after a threat exists and our clients could potentially get attacked before the signature is created.
